Geography

Welcome to our Geography journey, where curiosity, exploration, and understanding of the world come to life from EYFS all the way to Year 6.

From the very beginning, our youngest learners explore their world through play—talking about where they live, discovering different places, and beginning to use simple maps and globes.

As children move through the school, their knowledge and skills grow through our new and exciting Geography curriculum, carefully designed to build learning step by step. Pupils explore their local area, the United Kingdom, and the wider world, making meaningful comparisons and developing a deeper understanding of both human and physical geography. Our rolling curriculum ensures strong progression and opportunities to revisit and deepen learning across year groups.

Across the school, you will see children using a range of resources—maps, atlases, globes, aerial photographs, and digital tools—to bring Geography to life. Fieldwork, local walks, and practical investigations allow children to explore, question, and discover the world around them in a meaningful way.

A highlight of our curriculum is our whole-school Christmas Around the World event, where each class learns about a different country, creates a poster, and shares their learning with the rest of the school. This brings Geography to life and helps children develop a real understanding of cultures, places, and global connections.

At the heart of our curriculum are our Geography Genius Goals, which support children to become confident, independent geographers. Pupils learn to use maps, ask questions, analyse information, spot patterns, share their ideas, and care for the environment. These skills are closely linked to our ERIC values of Effort, Respect, Independence, and Communication.

Geography learning here is active and engaging. You will see children discussing, questioning, comparing places, and explaining their ideas clearly. They are encouraged to think critically about the world, understand different cultures, and reflect on how they can make a positive impact on the environment.

By the time they reach Year 6, our pupils are confident and knowledgeable geographers—equipped with a strong understanding of the world, the skills to investigate it, and a genuine curiosity about the people and places within it.

Geography is more than learning about places here—it is a journey of discovery, understanding, and connection to the wider world.
