Welcome to our class page.
Check back here to see what has been happening in Maple Class.
Mr B Holmes
I have been really impressed with the children of Maple and how well they have remerbered the Greek myths we were looking at last half term. This past week we adapted one of these myths to be written in the first person. We also split up into small groups and perforomed our myths with a twist to the class. In Maths the focus has been addition and subtraction with the focus of carrying across the tens in addition and subtracting beyond the 0 in Maths. Next week we will be building on this further and hopefully their homework will help them with this.
With world book day approaching on the 7th of March I would like to have a really big effort reading next week week!
It will be explained to the children on Monday that if they read 4/4 evenings next week they will recieve an 'E.R.I.C' sticker
If the whole class read 3/4 times at home next week they will recieve 'golden time' within school.
Reading must be recorded in the child's reading record.
Homework has been set and is due on the 7th of March. We will be begin looking at non chronological reports next week and if the children have seen 'Harry Potter and the Philosphers Stone' it will help them!
Have a lovely weekend,
Over the last week we have given full effort while learning about fractions. We have learnt how to find a fraction of an amount all we will need to remember to do is 'divide the number by the denominator and THEN multiply that answer by the numerator'. To build on our growing knowledge of fractions we have begun looking at equivalent fractions and finished the week adding and subtracting fractions.
In our literacy lessons we've searched far and wide for descriptive phrases and powerful verbs. As next week using thesaurauses and different synonms, we will be improving the already excellent Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus.
We were lucky enough to have the Deanes coaches come in and do a tennis taster session for us this week. Although it was cold and windy, it was clear that the children who took part in the lesson really enjoyed it. Homework has been sent out and is due on Wednesday.
Have a good weekend!
Unfortunately this week we said a big goodbye to Mrs Mair. Jotmans School have been lucky to have had her for 6 years and she will be greatly missed. Some of the children have been fortunate to work with her for nearly 2 years. Although she has moved to Wales she has promised to pop in and see Maple class if she is back in the area.
Every cloud has a silver lining as we are inheriting another excellent LSA in Maple. Mrs Phillips has worked with some of the children through 'Jolly Jotmans' and has valuable experience in year 3 so I am confident she will be able to fill Mrs Mair's big boots.
Over the next few weeks in Maple if your child wants to change their book please write in their reading record and we will attempt to change them. Homework will be sent out at some point next week. Hope you all have a good weekend.
Happy New Year Maple!
We've had a really productive first week back. We have read a lot of Fantastic Mr Fox and will continue to study it in the coming weeks. This week the children have been learning how to punctuate speech. The children have revisiting place value and ordering numbers up to four digits. We have begun and will continue in the coming weeks to learn about 'Invaders and Romans' as our history topic this term.
Last term we were awarded 50 parliment points for good behaviour throughout the school by various staff members and this Friday as voted by the children of Maple we had our fun P.E. lesson where we got the ropes and ladders out in the hall.
''Lets hope the good behaviour and positive attitudes towards learning continue throughout the term!'' said Mr Holmes.
Following the fantastic middle school production of Jack and The Beanstalk last week. The children of Maple class have now completed our Science inverstigations of 'Light'. In Maths, we have begun learning about fractions and are beginning to solve complicated Maths problems about fractions. With Christmas around the corner, we have started learning about letters. In the coming weeks we will continue to improve our writing by focusing on powerful verbs, adverbs and interesting adjectives. Finally, we will be decorating Christmas ornaments and designing Christmas cards and calendars.
What We Have Been Learning About!
The past two weeks have been great,
We have learned what goes on a healthy plate,
We have studied the Romans,
and learned what it is to be humans.
We have learned that bones keep you strong,
If you don't believe us you are wrong,
We have counted up to subtract,
We have also learned to count back,
In English we have been brushing up on our poetry,
As well as learning that not all past tense verbs end in ed,
Meanwhiile in PE we are learning how to move safely,
Because Mr Holmes says that in the classroom we are too noisy,
We've learned lots of French words for food,
However Mr Holmes can't pronounce them any good,
in the coming weeks we want to show,
Just how much we can grow,
