Welcome to our class page.
Check back here to see what has been happening in Maple Class.
Mr B Holmes
A warm welcome back from Mr Holmes and Mrs Phillips. I would like to congratulate those children who completed all the homework and handed it in on time. As promised these children recieved an E for effort to go to there E.R.I.C award. This term children will recieve extra golden time if they have been reading at home and it is written in the diary.
We are fortunate at Jotmans to have a swimming pool. A big thank you to all the parents and children for remembering to bring in and to take home their swimming stuff. If anyone is availaible we would appreciate an extra parent helper every Wednesday morning to assist with swimming.
The homework this week is a relatively short one and is due in on Wednesday 1st April.
I hope you have a good weekend,
This final week we had a very succesful Easter Egg Hunt. Children were in teams of 8 and searched the nature trail and playground for stickers. They would then take a sticker to myself and have to answer a question based on something they've learnt this year. If they were correct in their answers they would recieve some team eggs they could have and share amongst themselves.
Apologies for sending out the homework without an explanation. The instructions for all children was that they can do as much or as little as they choose too. The Maths questions that have an X next to them do not need answering as we have not covered it yet this year and I would not expect them to know it. It looks heavier and more time consuming than it actually is. Although the English homework says year 2 on it the skills and questions on it are still applicable and relevant to what we have been learning in year 3.
Enjoy the break and I look forward to seeing everyone when we get back!
We have been looking at instructions and explanations and the children of Maple loosely followed some instructions to make Roman Bread. Although we deviated in measurements and from the instructions we had a lot of fun. We then went on to write some instructions for How To Make Roman Bread, thankfully the instructions turned out better than some of the breads. We have continued to build on our knowledge of fractions and are now begining to solve complicated word problems.
We are making our D.T. projects next week which will require some sewing. If any parents are available and wouldn't mind coming in to help please do.
I have been impressed with the amount of children reading at home so regularly. If the whole class reads all week next week we will have a reward in school on Friday.
Happy Mothers Day,
I hope you enjoy your cards,
We have had a number of children completing their bronze ERIC awards this week so congratulations to these people. In Maple we are awarding ERICS for reading 4 or more times per week. We are also awarding ERIC stickers for recieving 5 or more Dojos in a single week.
Unfortunately we had 9 children in during golden time reading this week. If your child reads 3 times from Friday to Friday at home they will get golden time in school on a Friday.
Most children were able to complete their homework on time again. This week the homework was set on the 21.3.19 if your child didn't get a copy please put a note in the reading record so we can send it home.
A huge well done to the 8 children from Maple who compteted in the cross country schools events on Tuesday. I was really impressed with their effort, attitude and team spirit throughout the event.
Thank You Parents!
A big thank you to those parents who came to our coffee morning on Tuesday 12th March. I know the children had a lot of fun showing you the various things we have learnt in class. Another big thank you for your kind donations for Red Nose Day! In Maple Class we raised over £32.00 out of your unwanted copper coins!
Again those children who read at home recieved extra golden time this week and we will continue this up till Easter! If your child is reading after school please ensure it is going into the reading records so we can monitor within school.
Maths homework this week builds on our knowledge of time and time intervals specifically. We as a class have been very good lately at handing in homework on time so I hope this can continue next week.
On Wednesday there is a meeting for further information surrounding the Danbury trip in September which starts at 2:30. If you cannot make it your child will be there and they can relay the information to you.
Have a lovely weekend.
What We Have Been Learning About!
The past two weeks have been great,
We have learned what goes on a healthy plate,
We have studied the Romans,
and learned what it is to be humans.
We have learned that bones keep you strong,
If you don't believe us you are wrong,
We have counted up to subtract,
We have also learned to count back,
In English we have been brushing up on our poetry,
As well as learning that not all past tense verbs end in ed,
Meanwhiile in PE we are learning how to move safely,
Because Mr Holmes says that in the classroom we are too noisy,
We've learned lots of French words for food,
However Mr Holmes can't pronounce them any good,
in the coming weeks we want to show,
Just how much we can grow,
