Welcome to our class page.
Check back here to see what has been happening in Maple Class.
Mr B Holmes
Thank you for caring for some of the plants over the half term and bringing them back in. We will be drawing our final conclusions to the investigation 'What plants need to grow?'
Over the next 3 weeks we will be looking at playscripts and doing some drama as part of our Literacy lessons.
We will be continuing to give the children 'reading break' on a Friday for those who have read at home 3 times throughout the week.
Homework this week is a castle reading comprehension in anticipation for our upcoming trip to Colchester Castle.
A big thank you to all the pupils who have made spectacular castles at home as part of the homework. As you can see some children designed paintings for the interior of the castles. Myself and other members of Jotmans hall have been very impressed with the effort the children of Maple showed for this project.
Homework this half term is to use their scientific knowledge to put their plant in the best condition for growth over the half term and to record the results. We would like the plants back after half term to see who was able to nurture their plant and then we can discuss this and draw some scientific conclusions.
Enjoy the half term and I look forward to seeing everyone when we get back!
This week we have developed our knowledge of shoots and roots. We have an ongoing investion to see what plants need to grow. The first of the seeds have begun to sprout and the children have made predictions as to what will happen next week. Thank you for all the donations of the cardboard and plastic for our thinking skills morning. The children had to build something that would allow an egg to drop from 1m high. Incredibly, most of the children were able to complete this task. This Friday we had our sponspored walk and I am pleased to say they all did really well and some children completed up to 20 laps of the field.
Have a good weekend,
This shortened week we have continued our study of 'Recounts' in Literacy and have written two diary entries from different perspectives. In Maths we have learnt a new method for multiplying numbers larger than 12.
On Thursday the children of Maple used water colours to paint a famous painting originally painted by Monet.
I have given two weeks for homework this week as it is a building or drawing homework.
Have a good weekend,
This short week we looked at some impressionism in Art and in English.
We have studied Monet and read a short book of a fictional river journey with the famous painter. We then created our own trip down the River Thames today and wrote a fictional conversation about what Monet would likely say. Then in art based on some of Monet's paintings we attempted our own Weeping Willow.
Maths homework this week is due on Thursday as usual.
Have a good long weekened,
What We Have Been Learning About!
The past two weeks have been great,
We have learned what goes on a healthy plate,
We have studied the Romans,
and learned what it is to be humans.
We have learned that bones keep you strong,
If you don't believe us you are wrong,
We have counted up to subtract,
We have also learned to count back,
In English we have been brushing up on our poetry,
As well as learning that not all past tense verbs end in ed,
Meanwhiile in PE we are learning how to move safely,
Because Mr Holmes says that in the classroom we are too noisy,
We've learned lots of French words for food,
However Mr Holmes can't pronounce them any good,
in the coming weeks we want to show,
Just how much we can grow,
