Windy Mindy!

This week we have read two chapters of 'World's Worst Children' and learned all about Brian Wong who is never EVER wrong! We have also learned about Windy Mindy and her rather unusual talent for playing the tuba. While writing a continued piece about a fictional storm in English.

In Maths this week, we have been doing multiplication and division and have been really impressive with our division and our remainders.

A quick reminder that children are encouraged to dress up tomorrow for 'Children In Need' and that prizes will be given for the best dressed.

Thank you.

Have a good weekend,

Mr Holmes and Mrs Curtis

Welcome Back

grubby g.jpg

Welcome back, I hope you are rested and refreshed from the week off and ready to get back into working this half term.

Just to be clear in accordance with the school's new reading policy we are expecting children to be reading 5 times at home throughout the week. All reading is recorded in class and at home with a new reward scheme in place for our top readers!

Homework has been handed out 8.11.19 and is due next week. As the weather is getting colder, please, please, please could you ensure your child is coming to school with suitable clothing!

We have gone back to reading World's Worst Children and this week have been reading about Grubby Gertrude.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Holmes and Mrs Curtis

Diwali Day

As we approach the end of our first half term we have been studying Diwali and looking at poetry and specifically rhyming couplets. I would like to share with the parents a shared poem the class came up with this week.

The Diwali festival is fun,

We celebrate after the sun,

The fireworks are bright and bold,

Although it is very cold,

The Diwali candles are yellow and bright,

It truly is a wonderful sight,

Diwali candles are beautiful and hot,

We keep them safe in a pot,

 The celebrations are really loud,

You can tell the Hindu people are proud.

Have a lovely week off,

Mr Holmes and Mrs Curtis

World War 2!

Thank you for your patience throughout our time in the hall and we are looking forward to going back into hall next week.

A massive thank you to the parents who dressed their children according to the theme of 'World War 2 Day'. I was very proud of how the children of Maple behaved and interacted with the adults delivering the day.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Holmes and Mrs Curts.

What We Have Been Learning About!

The past two weeks have been great,

We have learned what goes on a healthy plate,

We have studied the Romans,

and learned what it is to be humans.

We have learned that bones keep you strong,

If you don't believe us you are wrong,

We have counted up to subtract,

We have also learned to count back,

In English we have been brushing up on our poetry,

As well as learning that not all past tense verbs end in ed,

Meanwhiile in PE we are learning how to move safely,

Because Mr Holmes says that in the classroom we are too noisy,

We've learned lots of French words for food,

However Mr Holmes can't pronounce them any good,

in the coming weeks we want to show,

Just how much we can grow,

Mr Holmes.
