Welcome to our class page.
Check back here to see what has been happening in Cedar Class.
Miss K Andrews
What a great first week back at school!
In maths, we have been looking at 3D shapes! We have been focussing on the faces, corners and vertices of 3d shapes and have enjoyed introducing our shapes to our friends. "This is Mr Cone, he has 1 flat face and 1 curved faces, 1 vertice and 1 corner".
In English we have been looking at Acrostic poems. We had a go at writing one about ourselves and then today we wrote one about 'Transport'. We have been talking about 'having a calm environment' when doing our work. Cedar class really enjoy turning off the lights and putting on fairy lights, music and calming visuals (such as a crackling fire or underwater scenes). This has really helped us focus. Check out the pictures.
In Phonics we have started phase 5! Your child now knows the following sounds and should be encouraged to identify these in words and begin to read them.
Next week we are excited to celebrate pancake day (Tuesday) and world book day (Thursday)!!
Happy Half Term!!
Cedar Class have worked so hard this half term and I am so proud of them!!
Thank you to everyone who came to parent's evening. It was lovely to meet you all properly and spend some quality time talking about the children's achievements together.
This week we have been writing alternative versions of the 3 little pigs. We looked at 'The 3 little Fish and the Big Bad Shark'. Ask your child to tell you their version!
We have sent home a sound mat and handwriting mat of all the sounds your children now know. They should be blending words with these sounds now. Any problems with how to sound them out check out geraldine giraffe on youtube and she will tell you everything you need to know!
Enjoy your hard earned week off and I look forward to seeing you back next week!
Today we played a trick on Mrs Harding and turned her into a robot as Miss Andrews needed her lunch making! When we said to Mrs harding to 'put the butter on the bread' she put the tub of butter on the bread and that was a problem!! We soon realised we needed to be more specific in our language and introduced 'bossy verbs'. These are words such as;
Take a look at our pictures and see how we did!
Cedar Class have been working on our handwriting skills this week. One of the biggest barriers to legible handwriting is weak muscles in the hands. We talked about how we needed to practise things like zipping our coats and tying knots to help us. We have also introduced 'dough disco' to our handwriting sessions. We each have a ball of dough and follow the video which encourages us to move our hands in different ways. We then had a go at making our initials with dough too. Check out the pictures!
We will soon be sending out a buffet of homework for the children to complete. In the meantime, please encourage your child to read as much as possible. We also discovered that lots of children didn't know how to spell their surname. On 1st February we will be having a little quiz to see who has been practising and there will be lots of Dojo's up for grabs!
Welcome back Cedar Class!
I hope you've all had a lovely long and relaxing break and are looking forward to the new year ahead!
We have lots of lovely things planned this term including a dress up day on the 25th January (More information to follow) as well as lots of opportunities to cook delicious cuisine from around the world as well as a DT project to design our own mode of transport!
Phonics and Homework
We have been looking at the 'igh' and 'oa' sounds this week. Homework will be to read words with these sounds and decided which are real words and which are nonsense. Children who have completed their homework will receive 'DOJO's' and these are a huge incentive in the class. (homework sheets will be sent home). We are also starting a reading incentive. Children who read 4 times a week with an adult with recieve a star on their chart and will earn themselves stickers and rewards. (See the inside cover of your child's reading record for this chart, this will kick off from next week).
(w/c 14th January) we will be learning about the story 'The Hundred Decker Bus'.
The Hundred Decked bus is about a bus driver who takes the wrong turning one day and ends up on a different route.
On his new route to 'anywhere' he picks up too many passengers and has to build more floors to his bus to fit them all on. We will be designing our own bus tickets, as well as re writing the story and designing our own characters! Perhaps you could discuss with your child a trip on a bus they have taken and where they went!
